In North Carolina, the law is currently that people have the right to own a gun. I agree with you and on the status of this law, even though MANY people do not. Some (typically those from the more liberal side) say that it is not a constitutional right for every citizen to have free access to a gun and they wish to impose restrictions on gun ownership. I don't think that gun restrictions would really reduce the likelihood of crime at all. If anything, I think that crime could possibly increase as a result of it. Criminals typically do not get possession of their gun legally, so they would still have full access to their armed weapons. Law abiding citizens need to be allowed to protect themselves if necessary and the owning of a gun would definatley help them feel safer if ever attacked.

Making gun control laws stronger will not deter criminals from acquiring firearms. This will only hurt citizens trying to protect their own property.
